Matthew for a while now has called me his best friend. I think it's very cute but undeserved as it is Margaret who plays with him loads more then me. Maybe it's because I am the continual novelty item who is at work most of the time. Anyway, I wear the title proudly.
It is becoming more and more difficult to get Matthew to nap in the afternoon. It's not because he doesn't need it..... he becomes an impossible monster by the end of the day if he does not have one. Once we have him asleep in the afternoon he will still easily sleep for a couple of hours. When I am not at home Margaret rarely get's him to sleep anymore. Since she has Adam to deal with now and then are not on the same nap schedule she has to plonk him in his bedroom and leave him there to put himself to sleep.... this does not happen any more. When I am here I take him to his bedroom and lie down with him until he is asleep. He really really performs now when I say it is nap time. The other day I got him to his bed and was lying there with him and he was crying and screaming that he didn't want to go to sleep. I had rolled over and had my back to him as this seems to quieten him down a lot quicker. He proceeded to tell me that I wasn't looking at him, I didn't listen to him, and I wasn't his best friend any more...... ouch that hurt.
Matthew has had a cold for a week now..... one of those really really snotty ones. Two nights ago he woke us up with a fever and we had to drug him to get him back to sleep. So yesterday I took him into the doctors as we had resigned ourselves to another ear infection. No such luck, he was clean. Yesterday and last night the fever really kicked in and so we have been keeping it down with various drug cocktails. We will leave it until tomorrow and if he still has it will take him back. The doctors will tell us he has a viral infection and tell us we can't do anything and it has to take it course.... and then charge us $80.00. The medical system (due to the lawyers here and the sue happy system we have here) is incredibly expensive. One day I will have to tell you all about Margarets $1150 visit to the Emergency room.... where she sat for 20mins waiting and then saw a doctor for 5 mins.
