The mood here is very September 11th'ish. People are really unhappy with Bush and his response to Katrina..... and it looks like it is going to get worse before it gets better. This area has its fuel fed from pipelines that go through the affected area and with the loss of power (and hence the pumps for the fuel lines are dead) everyone is running around freaking out that we will run out of petrol. On Saturday I filled a car up and the price of gas (petrol) was $2.53 a gallon. Today I joined the queue to top up (yes, I panic bought like everyone else..... but better safe than sorry) and the price is now $3.30. It will probably get more expensive before it goes back down again.
.... and yes, I know comparatively it is still probably cheaper than most other countries.... but that's not the point.... you live to your means and if say the weekly food bill suddenly increased by 25% and looked like it may double then it would have an affect on you..... and that is what is happening here. Think about it.... not only does the price you pay for gas go up but it will have an affect on pretty much anything you buy.
I'm going to do my bit and work from home more often. Matthew starts school soon so he will be out of the house 3 mornings a week.... it'll make working from home easier.
I took Matthew to the dentist today. He didn't do too badly... didn't much care for the lady cleaning his teeth but at least he didn't bite any of her fingers off. The gap left after he lost his front top tooth hasn't closed in too much so hopefully we can just leave it until the adult tooth grows.
Adam almost has his 3rd tooth through. His bottom front two are through and one of the top front ones is nearly there. I hate teething, we are getting loads of lousy nights because of it.
Adam also stood by himself today! He had managed to tip a cup of water over himself and I was trying to take his clothes off and let him go.... and he just stood there. Of course when I tried it deliberately he would have nothing of it. He has been pulling himself up for a while now and has started to cruise..... stand and use the furniture to help him walk arounnd the place. Today he also used a chair... and then a little ride on toy.... as walkers. The boy is changing in leaps and bounds
Adam is also starting to fight his naps and bed time. More and more frequently we are finding that he fights sleep until he drops from exhaustion. This is very different from Matthew and is a difference that sucks. I always used to be able to walk him to sleep but he won't have any of it now. He will wiggle and squirm and cry and scream until I give in and put him down. Then he will crawl around yawning. Eventually he gets to the point where he is miserable and you can pick him up and after a token fight he will sit with you until he drifts off.

Damn you yanks can complain. Notice how the price of petrol rises in New Zealand and we just get on with it. And we get paid less, and our petrol has to come from further afield and is therefore already expensive. Walk to work like I do, it would only take you a few hours, hahahahaha.
Lots of love
Your YOUNGER brother (how old are you again? and in two weeks time?)
