I have been playing around and found some freebie tools to hook my blog up as an RSS feed. What does all this mean? Well, if you hang out in front of a computer most of the day like I do you can run a small program called an RSS reader ( I use Feedreader at work... http://www.feedreader.com/ ) and hook it up to anything that is an RSS feed. For example The english newspaper 'The Daily Telegraph' has numerous different feeds ( headlines, international news etc ) as does the BBC ). Once you have told your RSS reader about these feeds, anytime something new is put onto the feed then your reader will know about it and in the case of FeedReader will pop up a very friendly dialog showing you the new stuff.
So, having said that, if you tell your RSS reader about me ( my address is http://sladetowers.blogspot.com/atom.xml ) then anytime I make a new blog entry you will know about it fairly quickly.
I know, it's all just fun and games and not really that useful when it comes to blogs, especailly when most of the readers of your blog are in a different time zone. But, if nothing else, if you have never heard of RSS then I have introduced you to something that is actually useful if as I said before, you spend the majority of the day in front of a computer. I have told my RSS reader of all the news and other sites I am interested in and so I don't have to keep going there to see new stuff..... it tells me when there is new stuff and I can look at the new stuff directly.
oh, and if you are really interested I made my blog an RSS feed using http://www.feedburner.com/
